Is My Furnace in Ontario, CA, Inefficient?

An inefficient furnace is never something you’d want, but it’s an especially burdensome thing to deal with during the winter. There’s no reason to settle for substandard indoor heating in your Ontario, CA, home. Here are a few tips to help you determine if your furnace is inefficient:

Massive Heating Bills

You can decide if you furnace is efficient by seeing how well it heats your home with a given amount of energy. The more energy it takes to produce satisfactory heating, the less efficient the furnace. As a result, the more you’ll probably end up paying for energy. High utility bills — whether for gas or electricity, depending on the type of furnace you have — are signs of an inefficient furnace.

Old Age

An old furnace is probably an ineffective and inefficient one. Even if you treat the appliance responsibly by scheduling professional preventive maintenance on an annual basis and requesting repairs whenever necessary, its performance will inevitably dwindle over time.

Heating oil and gas-powered furnaces usually work efficiently for 15 to 20 years. For electric furnaces, the useful life is somewhat longer, reaching 25 to 30 years. Even ignoring the fact that technological progress pushes newer furnaces to higher levels of efficiency than older ones, few systems will remain efficient once they get that old.

Blowing Cold Air

A furnace should expel hot air into your home. If it ceases to do that and begins pushing out cold air instead, it’s time to have it repaired. Your system might exhibit this strange behavior for a variety of different reasons, including weak or dead blower motors, clogged air filters, a busted thermocouple or a dead pilot light.

If you have an inefficient furnace that isn’t heating your home to a comfortable level, we can make that problem go away. Call Metz Air Control and ask for our heating repair services today.
