3 Worst Spots to Install an HVAC Thermostat in Riverside, CA

To ensure the proper and efficient regulation of the HVAC system in your home in Riverside, CA, it’s not enough to buy an advanced thermostat. The spot where you choose to place the device is also enormously important. To help you avoid a few pitfalls, here are three of the worst places to install an HVAC thermostat:

Near Windows

In general, you should aim to install your HVAC thermostat in a place where the temperature is as close as possible to the average that prevails in your home. Using this principle, installing your thermostat near any windows isn’t recommended.

If you leave your windows open, an incoming breeze may bring down the temperature in the immediate area and cause your thermostat to detect a lower temperature than the one that really exists. Even if you keep your windows closed, heat from the sun may stream in through them, creating the impression that your home is warmer than the actual temperature.

In Your Kitchen

Keep thermostats out of your kitchen, especially if you like to cook. Ovens, microwaves and other appliances may raise the temperature in that room, and if your HVAC thermostat sits there, it may decide to turn on your air conditioner even if the conditions in the rest of your home don’t warrant this.

If this continues long enough, your air conditioner will endure lots of unnecessary strain, which may eventually cause it to malfunction prematurely. Consequently, you’ll be in greater need of repairs and maintenance services than you would be if you had installed your thermostat elsewhere.

On an Exterior Wall

Any walls that make direct contact with outdoor air will either receive heat from that air or radiate heat out to it. Any thermostats attached to such walls will probably give misleading temperature readings.

With thermostats, location is everything. If you need help installing your HVAC thermostat in your Riverside, CA, home, call Metz Air Control today.
